The UAE conformity system
- ECAS (Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme) — mandatory pre-market registration and a certificate of conformity for regulated products.
- ESMA / MoIAT — the standards authority (ESMA is now part of the Ministry of Industry & Advanced Technology) that runs the schemes.
- EQM (Emirates Quality Mark) — a quality mark confirming ongoing conformity, often for building materials and food-contact goods.

Halal
Food, and some cosmetics, may require halal certification (the UAE Halal mark) issued by an accredited body — essential for meat, gelatine and animal-derived ingredients.
The process
- Classify the product and its HS code, determine the scheme.
- Test at an accredited laboratory (often accepted from the EU if to the right standard).
- Compile the technical file and declaration of conformity.
- Apply for the ECAS certificate and register the product.
- Apply the required marking and Arabic label.
Common pitfalls
- No Arabic labeling — a frequent reason for holds.
- Wrong or expired certificate, or the wrong scheme for the product.
